Because Hungary is a strange place, we celebrate (and expect) Santa Claus on the 6th of December. And because my wife don’t like me bogging down with the 505, she thought I should be equipped for the winter.

So how do you get your car ready for the winter? I got anti-freeze in all relevant fluids, proper winter tires on all four corners, and have replaced the wipers recently. The heater works, and so do all the lights, including fog lights fore and aft. And now I also have a rope and a shovel on board.

The only problem? Not much snow around here yet, and the forecast ain’t bright either.......

Starting last year, I now use snow tires on all 4 corners. I also keep one of those portable show shovels in the rear hatch area of my car.

That’s about it really. I always make sure I have an extra bottle of wiper fluid with me, but I do that all year around regardless. It’s simply much, much more important in the winter.

The Hungarian side of my family also does St. Nicholas Day (put your shoes and Christmas list in the window on the 5th, get some presents on the 6th) and then Christmas Eve as well. Merry Christmas!

Yes, along those lines. Less camo paint though, after all i want to be seen.

(as an aside: that “holiday special” is for me the lowest point of all modern Top Gear. I hated every last frame of it.)

I think it’s more like damaged paint. I don’t know for sure, as I got it as a present, but my wife works at a landscaping store where they do sell these, so i figure this was discounted. Which is perfectly fine by me.

That’s weird. It looks completely like it was shopped.

Nice to see that you can find their products sold outside Finland too as they don’t make the cheapest shovels that are available. This Fiskars company is still keeping consumer product production (shovels, knives, axes, scissors and garden tools) in Finland even though their competitors are pretty Chinese. Finnish made products that normal consumers can still buy are getting quite rare.

Here’s one good Finnish product that I’m planning to buy quite soon.

Fiskars is a pretty well known brand around here in Hungary. We do have scissors from them too, as well as other gardening products, like saws. My wife loves them, I should say.

Good to hear. I visited their R&D center during my studying years. They had rather wacky prototype tools that they showed to us.

Is there some Hungarian products that I would expect to find from here? Hungarian made cars and their parts are quite common is there any genuine and own Hungarian products?

For one Nav’N’Go (NNG) is Hungarian, so if you use an iGo navigation device, that’s a Hungarian software. There are other software / IT services as well, and of course a few foodstuffs, but as per industrial products goes, we are more or less colonized, and produce global products for international companies. I haven’t got that much against this, just stating the fact.

I have related story about Hungarian programmers.

Before my father retired he worked for Nokia for +20 years. He was working for their data management and resource planning systems. His team had one Hungarian consultant how was there to do programming with some obsolete programming language that was essential for some important use.

He would have wanted to defect from his constancy company to Nokia as Nokia would have saved a lot of pennies if they would have paid really generous programmers fee directly to the guy. The consultancy company was getting a lot for his work. But Nokia didn’t dare to hire him as there probably was an important “small print” in their contract.

A folding military spade would fit in the car much better, but as I said, i got it from Santa, so no chance of choosing........
